Spray Polyurethane Foam
A Brief History of SPFSprayed Polyurethane Foam has been used as a roofing and insulation material for over 30 years. While at one time Sprayed Polyurethane Foam was considered only as an alternative to built-up roofing, SPF roofs now protect a wide range of buildings. Over time, through comprehensive independent studies, SPF systems have proven to be dependable, long lasting and very affordable. Today there are foam roofs that have been in place for over 30 years and by all appearances they should he able to last indefinitely, as long as they are properly maintained. What is Sprayed Polyurethane Foam?Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPE) is a combination of isocyanate and polyol. These two components are fed through a proportioner which heats then pumps the two separate components to the spray gun where they are mixed and sprayed onto the substrate. Because the foam is sprayed onto the roof as a liquid, it forms a single continuous membrane that is seamless and very stable. SPF requires a clean surface for proper application. It must he dry and free of contaminants such as oil. The surface must also be properly fastened to the substrate in accordance with building code. A protective topcoat is required and is typically sprayed on, but may also be applied with hand or power rollers. |
