What is Sprayed Polyurethane Foam?
Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is a combination of isocyanate and polyol. These two components are fed through a proportioner which heats then pumps the two separate components to the spray gun where they are mixed and sprayed onto the substrate. Because the foam is sprayed onto the roof as a liquid, it forms a single continuous membrane that is seamless and very stable. SPF requires a clean surface for proper application. It must be dry and free of contaminants such as oil. The surface must also be properly fastened to the substrate in accordance with building code. A protective topcoat is required and is typically sprayed on, but may also be applied with hand or power rollers.

Adherence to Most Surfaces: A seamless layer of foam will fully adhere to the substrate (horizontal or vertical) and withstands high wind stresses.
Lightweight: Complete Sprayed Polyurethane Foam Systems are many times lighter than tar and gravel roof systems. When applied to an existing roof, the loose ballast removed usually weighs more than the replacement foam system. This results in the new roof being lighter than the original.
Reduces Building Movement: By placing the insulation on the outside, the foam system reduces building movement and thermal shock.
